The Full Harvest moon makes me think of that song by Ruth Etting in 1931 "Oh, Shine On, Shine On Harvest Moon Up In The Sky"...
September is a unique month because it has two commonly used moon names: The Harvest Moon and the Corn Moon. This year, today’s Full Moon is officially the Harvest Moon. The Full Moon that rises in September is named according to the closest full moon to the Autumn Equinox. This year the autumn equinox falls on September 22. It will be the last Full Moon of the summer instead of the first Full Moon of fall. The Moon will appear full for about three days. This Full Moon is also called, Fruit Moon, Barley Moon, and Hungry Ghost Moon. The Harvest Moon is always about the end of summer and the beginning of harvest. It represents abundance for the crops gathered and fruits ripened. In this phase, the moon appears particularly bright and rises early. It is a time for reflection. When the moon is completely illuminated--there is completion. You are at the height of clarity, reflecting on what you have completed. This moon offers helpful support for the harvesting of crops as the light from the moonbeams in September allowed for longer work hours into the night. Reflect on all you have accomplished!
