Mary Magdalene was one of the most important women in religious history. It’s taken centuries for her true story to be told. Although she remained mysterious for a long time and was misinterpreted by the church and the complexity of a patriarchal narrative, she’s now starting to be recognized for the wise and brave devotee she actually was. In 2016, she was formally named ‘the Apostle of Apostles’ by the Vatican, and in 2018 the movie ‘Mary Magdalene’ which stars Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix, portrayed her story more accurately than ever before.
