Virtue signaling in its most basic form is when people flaunt views to make themselves seem important or likeable to others. This desire to be seen as moral or righteous, while not actually being moral or righteous, is a dilemma of conscience that, unfortunately, is behavior usually rewarded by the masses.
Often manufactured by social engineering, virtue signaling gives people lost without a purpose something to hang on to in order to convince themselves they are doing something good. This is a lie. What is true may not be what people want to hear, yet the truth is what will elevate you to an improved state of being.
An example of virtue signaling is when people use provided social media photo frames to show support or signal a behavior. These stocked templates are created for groupthink and to deepen people’s beliefs within a hive mind, further instilling this type of behavior into the psyche and making it harder and harder to change your mind or go against the grain.
Anyone who tries to call out virtue signaling or tell the truth is often then canceled or censored in the new cancel culture that has emerged. This is because people are usually comfortable when they feel part of a group and anyone who upsets the comfort, they scapegoat as bad. Ultimately it comes down to who is truly listening to their own inner voice and guidance and who is going along to get along for the sake of ease and comfort. As the saying goes, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
The act of virtue signaling itself loses all virtue. If one must claim that they are virtuous then they are not virtuous. This applies not only to individuals, but to corporations and non-profit organizations.
On a corporate level, virtue signaling is really about deals and profits. It supports the greater agenda being fed to the masses. On an individual level, virtue signaling shows where someone’s mindset is and if they are succumbing to beliefs they are told they should believe and behaviors they should exhibit that, if done, will make them a good person. This is self-deception.
Additionally, individuals in uniform who give up their self-responsibility, morality and courage to hide behind a uniform of “just doing our job” are also virtue signaling. One example is the police officer who enforces codes, fines and unjust mandates, instead of protecting human rights and freedom. Or the doctor who prescribes or injects harmful substances for kickbacks without looking deeper into alternatives or investigating the real harm these drugs might be doing. Another example is the teacher who enforces obedience and falsified history without question, not recognizing how the educational system was created to halt critical thinking and form adults who can comply with unthinkable acts. This is more evident now than ever.
This applies to many charities as well. Some medical charities are false in that they sell the promise of research for something that already has a cure. Sometimes the very premise for which they were created is false. The charity rabbit hole is a long one worth exploring, as you will find many of the larger non-profits are not using the money as intended and often have a history that is anything but altruistic.
Most people donate to charity and often virtue signal to make themselves feel good without ever wanting to know or ask why this cause is truly important, where the money is really going, or how this organization may actually be impacting others (good or bad). They may find a never-ending loop with no improvements beyond profits. People caught up in this type of behavior often would not make the same “seemingly” altruistic gesture if it wasn’t being witnessed by others.
“Altruism holds that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that service to others is the only moral justification of his existence, and that self-sacrifice is his highest moral duty. The political expression of altruism is collectivism or statism, which holds that man's life and work belong to the state—to society, to the group, the gang, the race, the nation—and that the state may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good.”
— Ayn Rand, The Voice of Reason Essays in Objectivist Thought
Virtue signaling starts at birth when parents caught in the system cause harm to their children under the guise of “doing good” and “for the baby’s safety.” The tagline of “safe and effective” is a marketing scheme that has been used for generations to guide social behavior. Our so-called “civil” society is full of real barbarians disguised by “doing good”. The delusion of “doing good” leads people to not only harm others, but often to harm themselves. Their choices are not rooted in truth, knowledge or wisdom, but from fear—fear of standing up for oneself, fear of not being liked or accepted, fear of questioning what is perceived as normal or normalized. People cling to beliefs around holidays, traditions, false histories, celebrities, and use these as means to virtue signal what has become normalized, not necessarily what is true.Political correctness and politeness are other forms of virtue signaling. In an effort to seem accommodating to behaviors normalized within society, right or wrong, we abandon ourselves, our truth, our beliefs, all for the sake of not making someone else uncomfortable. This type of behavior doesn’t really help anyone as it’s not honoring the self and thus not giving back to the other person a true reflection, thus perpetuating a loop within the fictional system.
Saying how you really feel might offend, trigger, anger, irritate, annoy, or many other possibilities, but this is exactly what society needs, what people need. Being overly polite or kind is a kind of sterilization, a sanitizer of authenticity. May we all learn to become more aware of this. Be offensive to someone, speak truth about a situation—let it out for this is part of being real and real is beautiful.
“A decline in courage may be the most striking feature which an outside observer notices in the West in our days…Should one point out that from ancient times declining courage has been considered the beginning of the end?”
— Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, A World Split Apart
“Every major horror of history was committed in the name of an altruistic motive. Has any act of selfishness ever equaled the carnage perpetrated by disciples of altruism?”
— Ayn Rand
One person wishing to pass their own beliefs onto another, thinking what is best for them must also be best for another—this is where the dangers lie within virtue signaling. We are
each here on individual journeys, with individual lessons to learn, so this thinking is simply not true. Forcing behaviors onto the masses, such as vaccine passports and social credit scores discount the individual on all levels, further enslaving the masses until individuation occurs and sovereignty is sought on an individual level.
The perpetuation of marketing propaganda campaigns throughout social media that reinforce virtue signaling as a good thing is social conditioning that makes virtue signaling easy. People not only becoming dehumanized, but also gravely disempowered as they lend their power to something outside of Self. The only way out is to find sovereignty, and this is
hard, which is why most won’t seek it. Not complying with tyranny and immorality is hard, not consenting to harmful actions or behaviors wrapped up in virtue signaling is also hard.
The price to pay for blind consent is easy, but harmful and comes with regret. The price to pay for sovereignty is often lonely, but comes with inner peace.
Virtue signaling to make yourself feel better is a form of avoiding reality. It’s time to start asking why am I really supporting this? It’s time to take your power back. It’s time to do the hard thing and find sovereignty, for until each seeks to do so, the psychosis and harm done from virtue signaling will be allowed to continue.
Many people don’t even know they are virtue signaling. The individual who revels in the comfort and familiarity of suffering may virtue signal their illness and become attached to it because it brings attention and good feelings. Like a pill by a doctor that doesn’t get to the root, this is the emotional equivalent—thus denial of deeper information available to us is ignored and virtue signaling manifests as the cover up.
Ask yourself, when have I virtue signaled and why? Dig deep and use this as an opportunity to elevate yourself.
