I first got introduced to Sacred Oracle Decks in 2004. After being interested and studying metaphysics for some time, I attended a weekend gathering at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck NY called Connecting with the Spirit World. It was hosted by Doreen Virtue, known in those days as the “Angel Lady”. It changed the trajectory of my life completely! She taught us about angels, our spirit guides, energy, vibration and the power of our words, thoughts and intentions. I went back again in 2005 where she co-hosted with her then husband, Shaman Steven Farmer and my journey deepened and intensified. As I browsed through the quaint little bookstore in 2004, I was compelled to purchase my first Oracle Deck, created by Doreen Virtue and called Messages from the Angels. I was mesmerized by the accuracy and the poignancy of the messages coming through. This began an 18 year journey of collecting and working with different Oracle Decks. Last count I was up near 80 different decks!

What is very interesting is that, with some decks I receive, I will look through them, maybe use them a few times and put them on the shelf. Other decks grip me and resonate so deeply!

For me, it's not just the information and artwork on the cards that resonates with me. Being a textile designer and artist, it is also the weight, quality and texture of the packaging and card stock that is instrumental in determining my experience of connecting with the deck. It was a bit of a push but I have managed to narrow down my very favorite decks to seven (being my favorite and very sacred number) for this article. They are like my children and it was hard to pick out my very favorites. I’ve included the date I bought them also to give you an idea of my chronological journey. Gratitude to the creators of these decks—they have brought me immense clarity, comfort, inspiration and motivation over the years in times where all of these were needed. They are not in order of preference because I love them all (although If I had to pick just one I will tell you which one it is later):

1 - Sacred Rebels Oracle by Alana Fairchild. Artwork by Autumn Skye Morrison. Being a bit of a rebel myself, this deck has resonated SO deeply with me! It was gifted to me by a dear friend in 2016. The cards and guidebook are larger than the traditional size, are of high quality and the wisdom in here is SPOT ON! The explanation and offerings in the guidebook are the most extensive and detailed I have seen with a relevant and most deeply healing ritual offered at the end. The artwork is incredibly detailed, otherworldly and breathtakingly exquisite! If you possess that Rebel spirit in so many of us New Earthers this is a MUST HAVE! It is one of the 4 decks I take with me when I travel.

2 - The Druid Animal Oracle Deck by Philip & Stephanie Carr-Gomm. Illustrated by Bill Worthington. When I discovered there was a Druid deck, it was a must have and it did not disappoint! Again the cards are slightly larger than traditional Oracle cards and their texture is matte and warm to the touch. There are 33 cards instead of the usual 44. I bought this deck around 2014. I love the potency of the messages and it provides the Celtic pronunciation of the Animal totems. The artwork is a little more muted and evokes a retro and comforting storybook feeling. This deck has deepened my connection with my animal spirit guides and it has a sense of homecoming for me.

3 - Dragon Oracle Cards by Diana Cooper. Artwork by Carla Lee Morrow.

I have been so drawn to the Dragons for the past couple of years. They have resonated with me deeply and I feel their energy at this time on a planet where so much is in need of clearing and burning away. They are also so instrumental in assisting us in paving our journeys into the New Earth. This deck is the traditional size using heavy and substantial card stock. The artwork is bold as you may imagine depicting these majestic beings. The wisdom for me has been incredibly accurate and I am so enjoying deepening my journey and connection with these incredible beings of light. This deck comes with me when I travel.

4 - Sacred Hags Oracle by Danilee Dulsky. Illustrated by Janine Houseman.

This deck is one of my latest. I just purchased it in November 2021. I became familiar with Danielle’s work through her book The Holy Wild …and HOLY SMOLY is she a master wordsmith! Not only is this deck of 56 cards exquisitely and uniquely packaged

sideways in a fold out box, it is next level in its presentation! Identifying as a “heathen visionary, Aquarian mischief maker and word witch”, I fell DEEPLY in love with Danielle’s work. She also coincidentally is in the same Celtic Shamanic Practitioner training as I am currently! Crazy small witch world we have here! This deck is a must have if the above resonates with you. The glossy guidebook is in color and formatted non traditionally with messages coming from Grandmother and Morning and Nighttime rituals. It is an absolute work of art!

5 - Mystical Shaman Oracle Deck by Alberto Villoldo, Collette Baron Reid and Marcela Lobos. Illustrated by Jena Della Grottaglia. This one, like Danielle's, is one of my very favorites for so many reasons, one being its exquisite packaging and presentation. It feels like opening a precious gift every time I use it. It has an outer binding with the most captivating artwork which reveals its fold out box uncovering the larger than usual matte guidebook, underneath which is nestled the box of 50 cards bound by a teal ribbon! It is utterly beautiful! The artwork is mystical with layers of blurred out images to connect with on a subconscious level. The wisdom is always on point and so revealing. This one comes with me also although I have to pare down the packaging for my carry on…

This one is one of the more expensive decks I have purchased (around $40 at the time) which I did as soon as it was published in 2018. So so worth every penny!

6 - Sacred Ireland Celtic Moon by Karen Ward. Artwork by Bernie Sexton.

This one is very personal as it was co created by one of my incredible Celtic Shamanic teachers Dr. Karen Ward. I purchased it directly from her in Ireland in 2020. It is one of my very favorites as it connects me deeply to my homeland and culture. Featuring Pre Celtic Goddesses, Irish Sacred Sites , Moon Names and Phases, and Celtic Seasons and Symbols, it provides for me a conduit into my ancient heritage mining from there the most profound wisdom. A 52 card deck in high quality card stock, I have found it to be incredibly educational and on point in its messaging. Karen’s broad and acute knowledge of our ancient Spiritual heritage and customs is very evident in these cards. The guidebook is precise and to the point. I absolutely love it! This is another one for the carry on which is now getting quite heavy…

7 - Postcards from Spirit by Colette Baron Reid. Artwork by Della Grottaglia.

Purchased in 2017, if I was stranded on a desert island or maybe an emerald green Island and could only have one deck, this is it! It is completely different to any other deck I have ever seen or experienced. These are 52 personal notes in the form of antique postcards which come directly to you from Spirit. They come printed on card stock that evokes the warmth and simplicity of olden times, with stunning faded, ornate artwork. When you need a love note right into your heart and soul, this deck will provide it! It is the one deck that I have gifted countless times to friends and family over the years from Irish Catholic priests in their 80s to youngsters on their wild wonderful journey. Its Universal appeal is due to its utter simplicity. These are love notes pure and simple and who doesn’t love getting a love letter?

Colette has channeled such deep, accurate, comforting, wisdom from Spirit in these postcards. It's like getting a warm hug from The Universe. The loving messages in this deck have taken me out of many a funk. I cannot recommend this deck more! This is first into the carry on!

OK so I didn’t escape with just seven. I'm going to have to give honorable mention to these two because I just can’t leave them out:

1 - The Psychic Tarot by John Holland. Artwork by John Matson

I purchased this deck in 2010 and its guidebook is dog eared! Incredibly precise and understandable for those of us not trained in Tarot, it is one of the ones I

use very regularly. A substantial deck with 65 cards divided into 4 sections—Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual, it never fails to resonate deeply. I highly recommend it! I recently went for a reading here in Nashville and this was the only deck she used. It is absolutely on point and has become a best seller for John over the years.

2 - Shamanic Medicine by Barbara Meiklejohn-Free and Flavia Kate Peters. Artwork by Juri Leitch. Last but not least, this my newest addition! I just purchased it a month ago at my favorite second hand bookstore in Nashville. What a find! I absolutely love everything about it including the artwork steeped in earthy browns and burnt orange tones and evokes the Wisdom of the Ancients. A larger than usual deck of 50 cards on gorgeous matte card stock, you can feel the Earth Wisdom immediately when you handle the cards. In working with this deck so far I have found it to be precise and incredibly poignant in its messaging .The messaging ends with a short rhyme channeled directly from the chosen Shamanic element. It is an absolute gem! I may need a bigger carry on!

Thank you for coming on this journey of signs, symbols, wisdom and oracles with me!
